Local Law 15: Bird Friendly Building Design

Local Law 15, describing bird friendly design and construction requirements, became law earlier this year on January 10. This law will potentially affect the form and materials of your building. The main focus of developers and architects to date has been on the types of glass required to achieve bird friendly curtain-walls, window walls, punched window openings, and glazed railings. As there are aesthetic and cost implications associated with incorporating bird friendly materials into your building, it’s important that owners and design professionals understand the law and the options available to meet the law, so that they can turn legal requirements into design opportunities.

In this webinar, which took place on Thursday 23 September, 2021, CANY assembled a panel of experts to walk through the current Code requirements and to de-mystify the law as it applies to Bird Friendly design. The panel includes Doctor Christine Sheppard from the American Bird Conservancy, Nick Kurta from Wausau Window and Wall Systems, Ryan Hoffman from Viracon, and Beverlee Danser, and Tim Wynter-Stoner from CANY.
